There are 2 types of Cancer Insurance Policies:
Schedule Of Benefits - This type of policy pays set amounts for different benefits such as so much per day for a hospital room, so much for surgery, so much for chemotherapy, so much for prosthetic devices, etc.
First Diagnosis - This type of policy pays a set amount of $5,000 - $50,000 upon first diagnosis of Cancer. This type of policy is hassle free as only one claim is filed. The policy pays once, and it's finished. The money can be spent however you choose.
Cancer policies can be written for individuals age 18-85 and some have a family plan available.
It’s an equal opportunity enemy. Cancer affects every race, ethnic group, and gender. It doesn’t just affect the person who is diagnosed, but their whole family. Although people like to think, “It won’t happen to me!”... the truth is, cancer can happen to anyone, at any time of life, and the cost of treatment is not cheap. Due to modern medical breakthroughs, people are surviving longer with diseases such as cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, the five year relative survival rate for all cancer diagnosed between 1996 and 2002 is 66%, up from 51% in 1975 - 1977. This is good news, but also means higher costs (medical and non medical) for ongoing treatment if needed. You can be sure to get the treatment you need to conquer Cancer by carrying a Cancer Policy in addition to your regular health insurance. It pays in addition to your other insurance to cover deductibles/coinsurance and non-medical expenses.
